Non-dairy maintenance compounds
If you process non-dairy animal products and are operating under the Animal Products Act regime, the requirements outlined here apply to you.
Requirements
You must meet requirements for maintaining the hygiene of the processing environment (Regulation 11 of the Animal Products Regulations 2000).
If you process non-dairy animal product or material for human consumption, you must use approved maintenance compounds according to the conditions imposed by MPI. You must comply with the relevant parts of the Approved Maintenance Compounds (Non-Dairy) Manual (link below).
If you process non-dairy animal product or material for animal consumption, you have 2 ways to meet maintenance compounds requirements:
- You can use approved maintenance compounds according to both the conditions imposed by MPI and the manufacturer's instructions or
- You can determine that the compounds used according to the manufacturer's instructions will not adversely affect the product's suitability for processing or fitness for intended purpose.
If you choose option 1 (using approved maintenance compounds), you must comply with the relevant parts of the Approved Maintenance Compounds (Non-Dairy) Manual (link below).
