Exporting organic products to Switzerland

This page provides a summary of the market access requirements when exporting organic products to Switzerland.

Official Organic Assurance Progamme (OOAP)

Switzerland recognises New Zealand's Official Organic Assurance Programme (OOAP) as equivalent to their own organic regulations.

New Zealand is listed as a country which may market products with labels relating to organic farming in specified categories. Therefore, not all types of organic products are covered under the OOAP. For example, animal products in conversion to organics are excluded.

New Zealand's listing with Switzerland is provided in Annex 4 of the Ordinance on organic farming.

Overseas Market Access Requirements (OMARs)

Details of market access requirements for organic products exported to Switzerland are provided in this PDF document

Remember that organic exporters also need to meet the standard (non-organic) OMARs for Switzerland. Access these by clicking Exporting in the Related information menu on the right and selecting OMARs.

Exporters must have an export certificate (official assurance) from MPI Food Safety for each consignment of organic product you export to Switzerland. Apply for an export certificate by completing this application form.
