This is Paper 8 in a Review of government involvement in the domestic food sector. This Paper provides a comprehensive package of proposals for the future food regulatory regime, as might be recommended to the Government by NZFSA (now MPI). It addresses issues raised in the submissions on the seven Papers previously released for public discussion. The Paper has been developed by NZFSA (now MPI) in conjunction with representatives from Public Health Units and Territorial Authorities
The New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) (now MPI) has reviewed government involvement in the New Zealand food sector, and the Government has decided to establish a new food regulatory regime as detailed in the eight previous Discussion Documents. These earlier Discussion Documents contained the key requirements to enable the Government to decide on the policy for drafting a new Food Bill which has been agreed to.
