To report a food recall

When a food safety problem is identified in a product that has been distributed beyond the manufacturer/importer, a recall should be considered and the manufacturer/importer should notify MPI.

The manufacturer/importer notifies MPI through their local Food Act Officer (FAO), using the contact details in the table below. The FAO works with the manufacturer/importer to provide guidance and oversight during the recall.

In the table below, within the ‘Region’ column, pick the region where the company or office responsible for conducting the recall is based – and then choose the corresponding contact details for the local FAO. Even if the FAO is based in a Public Health Unit – this is considered effective notification of a recall to MPI.
