Salmonella strategy

A comprehensive programme of work under the Salmonella Risk Management Strategy was undertaken by MPI from 2008 to 2015. The objective of the strategy was to estimate the proportion of cases of salmonellosis attributable to foods, and to identify, implement and evaluate effective control measures.

MPI's Salmonella Risk Management Strategy aimed to achieve, within 5 years, a 30% reduction in the reported annual incidence of foodborne salmonellosis.

The strategy focused on gathering information about a range of potential sources of Salmonella. MPI continues to investigate sources, pathways, foods and handling processes that cause the salmonellosis.
